Anonymous asked:Who is the most important filmmaker today?
Honestly? I think the most important filmmakers today are US.
Not TGWTG, obviously. I mean everyone who puts a video online to share it. The vlogger generation is the biggest force in changing how moving images are made and seen. The content created on Youtube alone is quickly becoming a major competitor to traditional forms of media, including and especially film and television.
Before Internet 2.0 film was this craft that could only be practiced by the wealthy and well connected. The equipment was so prohibitively expensive that only an entire industry could support the creation of movies. Now anyone with a DSLR and the ability to Google search “how to light for photography” and “sound recording techniques” can make a decent flick and distribute it without any middleman.
And we are quickly becoming the dominant force in moviemaking. Everyone’s a filmmaker now.
And that makes certain groups of people very, very nervous.
Which is all the more glorious and terrifying.
